Meaningful Coaching

The one-to-one coaching programmes are entirely focused on the agenda you bring to us.

Being or becoming a leader is highly pressured, and it is not unusual for people to struggle once promoted into leadership roles, especially in engineering where promotions can be quite fast.

We often hear from new leaders how they have a feeling of 'imposters'. Now promoted into a leader's role, people look to them for answers they don't have. And given the volatility of the economic landscape and the inherent complexity of organisations, the situation is only getting worse. Many leaders end-up firefighting from one problem to the next, coordinating -or micro-managing- their teams to act. Burn-out is often only around the corner.

If this sounds like your day-to-day, it is probably time to do something about it and coaching can help you to intentionally develop your leadership. At the start of the programme, we will explore your leadership challenges and develop your coaching agenda. Coaching is done in the privacy and confidentiality of the coaching sessions, which allows you to be completely open.

Developing your leadership will rarely happen unsupported. Engaging in a coaching relationship is a way to be intentional about making progress. The coach will help your awareness, support and equally challenge you, and help you commit to act, so the small steps add-up to situational and personal improvements.

Henko offers leadership coaching in addition to our focused change programmes to set a space for reflection and personal growth.

Who is this service for?

  • Business leaders looking to orient in the changing landscape,

  • CTO / CIOs looking to progress their leadership style with teams and boardrooms,

  • Change & transformation leaders looking to bring intentional work in the intangibles of team relationships,

  • Engineering leaders, especially when promoted from hands-on roles to team leadership,

  • Product Owners/Managers looking to improve team and cross-teams collaboration,

  • Agile delivery managers, ART Leaders, RTEs looking to drive improvements,

  • Scrum-masters and other team leadership roles.

Why engage in one-to-one coaching programmes?

Developing knowledge and developing leadership in practice are different things.

A training and a certification does not make for effective practice. Accumulating knowledge is a complete waste if it is not to be adopted and implemented.

Coaching stimulates the reflective process and focuses on your relationships with situations, others and with yourself. Unfolding those situations helps you find your way in them, and, with it, intentionally improve your leadership.

One-to-one coaching also offers the benefit of the intimacy of a coaching relationship, allowing for deeper reflection on personal challenges and edges. From a practical point of view, you decide when to book the sessions according to your diary rather than aligning with a group schedule, which might work better for busy professionals.

Learning outcomes

Overcome limiting beliefs - Most leaders have doubts and even imposter syndrome, and it is only getting worse as things change more often and quicker. Find out what's limiting you and how you can explore your full potential.

Strive for more than custodian leadership - Custodian leaders focus on doing their job diligently, which also tends to become their growth ceiling. You have to strive for more. Your senior leadership will see your potential in taking change and improvement initiatives.

Improve your leadership style - Your competencies only matter when they become skilled actions. We help you become a better systemic leader with your teams and effectively delegate and organise the performance of your teams or business unit.

Stimulate collaboration and performance of your teams - Learn to create, sustain, and evolve a collaborative team environment. Working with the intangibles of team dynamics is not magic, you can be intentional with them. We sharpen your systemic coaching skills to drive intentionality of teamwork relationships.

Make an impact in the boardroom - Elevate your leadership into the boardroom by developing your strategic leadership. What's your plan? How does it align to the Corporate one? How is the organisation potentially in contradiction? We help you become the leader to improve this.

Focus of the coaching

The first session of the series is to determine your coaching focus, also called agenda. It is tailored to your unique situation. Determining the focus is part of the coaching process, evoking awareness, and it can sometimes take multiple sessions. It is worth spending time on it as it will bring clarity to you.

We will periodically check-in on the focus to verify that it is still valid and that you are making progress on it.

We are also a practitioner of an individual assessment framework called Lumina Spark, which we may optionally run (at a small additional cost - please enquire). The assessment offers a portrait of your everyday strengths in eight core dimensions and twenty four sub-dimensions and considers when those quality get over-extended. It is useful to know yourself better and develop your emotional intelligence at the start of the coaching process. It can also inform your coaching focus.

Schedule of the sessions

  • Pre-coaching - Complete an entry form to clarify your coaching context. Optionally, also complete a Lumina assessment.

  • Session 1 - Establish your landscape, evoke awareness, review your working situation and determine the coaching focus,

  • Sessions 2 to 5 - Unfold situations in relation to your coaching focus and create reflection, learning, next actions,

  • Session 6 - When signing up for a six-session programme, this session is used to reflect on the overall journey, assess and anchor the new awareness into your leadership. When signing up for a ten-session programme, the sixth session is used as a check-in on the agenda to adapt the programme if necessary,

  • Sessions 7 to 10 - For people signing up to ten-session programmes, the second part of the programme deepens the exploration, or repositions based on the discussions at the sixth session. The tenth session is used as a reflection over the entire programme.

Logistics

The programmes run virtually from our Platform for Continuous Change. They will use Zoom, MS Team or browser-based video.

The platform allows you to access our diary and reserve sessions. It also allows for direct communication and file exchange and contains all the information in one place.
