The Challenge:
Our view of leadership tends to be biased by cultural norms, our personal experiences in business environments that were slower and more linear, and idolised geniuses such as Steve Jobs (former Apple CEO) or Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, as well as others).
Consequently, organisations' leadership development programmes unwittingly reinforce classic leadership patterns with an individualistic view of leaders.
This is in contrast with the desire and the need for collaboration. With more complex problems and many more moving parts, modern leadership should enable the teams and the organisation system to connect collaboratively and bring diverse skills and perspectives to resolve the issues and find innovation. This contrasts with leaders who operate as custodians of a set of processes, generally within a bounded scope, who will resist anything that would shake the apple cart.
In a business landscape that changes faster, in a world that is prone to significant macro-disruption, and in a competitive landscape that recalibrates all the time with Global competition and business models reimagined with technology, is it realistic to believe that leadership can carry on from past centuries patterns?
It is time to reset or reboot the leadership with a programme of systemic leadership.
Expected Outcomes:
Recalibration of leaders to work with their systems, empower and stimulate collaboration where it matters,
Better decision-making in complexity, derisking and accelerating the choices and innovation of the business,
Better innovation through the diversity of contributions coming from the connected teams,
Better collaboration across the business, in the operational teams, and even better, in the leadership teams,
Better dynamics across the business, with the intentionality of performance,
Growth of people, talent retention and attraction, much-reduced waste in talent management,
Fewer politics and manoeuvering, as people with personal agendas often get revealed in systemic work.
Our Differentiated Approach:
Our approach is systemic first and by default. Beyond the work with the teams and the overall organisation, this service focuses on the systemic perspective in leadership:
Recognising the complexity and entanglement of situations, how to make sense of those and how to act in it,
Understanding how to organise teams between collaboration, cooperation, coordination, decoupling and when to take control,
Stepping out of the coordinating role and holding the accountability and the collaboration of the team(s),
Identifying the contradictions of the organisation and how to take an active role in addressing and resolving those,
Practising coaching techniques in leadership to reinforce the engagement of teams and their commitment to performance,
Progressing their leadership by developing a range adapted to the conditions of the situation - there is no one-size-fits-all in leadership.
Our services are unique in mixing professional coaching with what creates performance in business and the new leadership of modern digital organisations.
Service Format:
We start with an advisory engagement to understand your expectations from the change and review the situational context in which the leaders operate. We may sit in a few sessions they lead as an observer to appreciate their leadership style.
We can offer this service as one-on-one coaching or an ongoing group programme with training education and reflection circles that anchor their leadership progress.
